DIMAPUR: COTPA flying squad led by team leader, officer in-charge (O/C) Wokha, L. Chenithung Kikon along with staff of National Tobacco Programme (NTCP), Dobashi (DBs) from district administrative and women police personnel Wokha conducted enforcement raid of tobacco products near educational institutions on March 30.
According to a DIPR report, the squad penalised 13 defaulters with a fine of Rs. 200 and seized tobacco products from the shops falling within restricted areas.
During the raid, shopkeepers were directed to abide by the COTPA Act and warned that necessary legal action would be initiated as per provision of the law.
Later, the seized tobacco products were destroyed at Wokha police station premises in the presence of all the flying squad members.
The team informed that frequent raids would be conducted in the coming days.
