DIMAPUR: Green Skill Development Programme (GPSDP) on value addition and marketing of non-timber forests products (plant origin): bamboo crafts, a two-month certificate course organised by ENVIS Hub, Nagaland with host organisation Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) which commenced on January 28 concluded at NPCB office on March 30.
In a press release, ENVIS Hub informed that during the valedictory programme, guest of honour, chairman, NPCB, IFS (Rtd) Rusovil John emphasised on the importance of bamboos and encouraged the trainees to make use of the internet where they could sell their products. He advised them to be creative in product making and marketing strategy in order to compete with other entrepreneurs.
During the programme, a GSDP project report on bamboo handicrafts was released by the guest of honour who also presented the certificates to successful trainees.
The programme was hosted by programme officer, ENVIS Hub Nagaland, Limitsa S Sangtam, welcome address was delivered by environmental engineer NPCB, Er. Aghali A Swu and speeches on behalf of trainees was delivered by Thejakhrietuo Nagi and Nikito Swu.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by information technology officer, ENVIS Hub Nagaland, Nannenlo Semy.
The programme was attended by trainees and officials and staff of NPCB.
It may be mentioned that GSDP certificate course on bamboo crafts is the ninth GSDP certificate course conducted by ENVIS Hub Nagaland (Host Organisation: Nagaland Pollution Control Board).
The training was sponsored by ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change. Altogether 15 trainees attended the training which consisted of theory classes from officers of host organisation and officials of Forest department.
Practical sessions were conducted by Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Dimapur. The training also consisted of field visits to Kisama, Made in Nagaland (Nagaland Made Products emporium), Bamboo Emporium, Deziephe and Cane Concept Dimapur. The trainees also visited Khonoma Village where they were given hands on training on making bamboo baskets.
