Free LN4 Prosthetic Hand Camp for persons with disabilities was held at SD Jain Higher Secondary School, here, on Saturday.
The camp was organised by SD Jain Charitable Clinic (SDJCC), Dimapur under the aegis of SD Jain Samaj in collaboration with Rotary Club of Calcutta Presidency and National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, secretary, SD Jain Charitable Clinic, Narendra Jain informed that 52 people benefited from the camp where they received prosthetic hands sponsored by Rotary Club of Calcutta Presidency.
It may be mentioned that the prosthetic hands were USA made.
Out of the 52 beneficiaries, 38 were from Nagaland, one from Telangana and the rest from Assam.
The youngest beneficiary was a 7-year-old while the oldest was 77 years old.
Narendra Jain informed that three beneficiaries received custom extender and were sent to Kolkata to receive the custom extended prosthetic hands.
This included two beneficiaries from Zunheboto and one from Wokha.
He also said that the camp was organised to serve society by helping people who lost their hands either through accidents or amputations.
Meanwhile, chief minister, Neiphiu Rio in a message addressed to the secretary, SD Jain Charitable Clinic, expressed his appreciation to the clinic for organising the free LN4 prosthetic hand camp.
The chief minister said such kind deed was a reminder to everyone not to lose faith in humanity.
He said the Jain community was known for showing compassion, kindness and love to everyone regardless of creed or race.
Rio further maintained that SD Jain Charitable Clinic during the COVID pandemic had also been vigorously administering door to door vaccination.
He hoped that the community would continue working for the welfare of the marginalised part of the society.
Meanwhile, governor of Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi in a letter also acknowledged SD Jain Charitable Clinic and stated that the organisation had also previously extended remarkable contributions in providing free artificial limbs and caliper camp, wheel chairs to the needy.
He said the camp would be life changing and make long lasting impact on the lives of the beneficiaries and their family members.
It may be mentioned that commissioner of police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo, deputy commissioner of police and PRO, Bharat Laxman, deputy commissioner, Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, DMC administrator, Albert Ezung, chief medical officer, Dimapur, Dr. I Moatemjen and other dignitaries also attended the programme.
The prosthetic hands were provided free of cost to all the beneficiaries.
