Kohima Inter-High School Tournament got underway on Wednesday at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The opening ceremony was graced by advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Kicky Kire as special guest.
In his speech, Kire reminded the students to maintain discipline, patience, and determination so that they can become winners in the years ahead. Dr. Nicky also declared the tournament open.
Altogether 28 High schools in Kohima district are participating in three disciplines which include Football, Badminton, and Table Tennis.
Secretary Youth Resources & Sports, Wezope Kenye was the chairman of the programme.
In the first day of the day, Mt. Hermon beat Modern School 7-1.
While in the second match, Baptist High blanked Government High School Chandmari 2-0.
In Pool B, Loyola Higher Secondary School defeated Holy Family Hr. Secondary school by a solitary goal.
While Grace Hr. Secondary School overcame Charity School via penalty 4-2 after the match ended 3-3. For girls football, Loyola Higher Secondary School defeated Don Bosco Hr Secondary School 7-0 and TM Higher Secondary School defeated Baptist High School Jotsoma 9-0. Loyola Higher Secondary School will next face TM Higher Secondary School on April 8 in the semifinal.
Meanwhile, GMS Meriema girls defeated Mt Sinai by 7-0. They will play against Rüzhükhrie Hr Secondary School on April 8 in the second semifinal.
The sporting events for badminton and table tennis will be held at Indoor Stadium Kohima from April 8.
