Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has opened a new stockist in Dimapur with Guwahati as the central branch for Northeast.
SAIL has selected Doiwa Renewable Energy Inc as stockist for Nagaland.
This was informed to press and media fraternity at the “Consumers meet” programme organised by Steel Authority of India, ministry of steel, government of India on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering as special guest, former MP, A Apok Jamir, said SAIL has been a part of nation building, adding that right from the independence era, it had played pivotal role in building up the country. “The first plant which was initiated or constructed was on 1954, in the name of Hindustan Steel Limited, which was later incorporated as SAIL on January 24, 1973”, he noted.
He further added that in every aspect of one’s life, be it social, political, etc, he asserted that steel had always been associated in the progress of the country and the state as a whole, citing the examples of steels used in defence, auto mobiles, space, etc.
He further spoke on the social aspect and protection of eco system, adding that SAIL had embarked into various green missions, where it was trying for reforestation, job opportunities, educational infrastructures, etc., and assisted the states in many ways.
Jamir also noted that conducting an official meet at Dimapur after a period of 25 years proved on the emphasis of SAIL on Northeast. He maintained that North East in the coming years will be the central of economic activities.
Meanwhile, director, NSTFDC, ministry of Tribal Affairs, Johnny G Rengma, in his welcome address, mentioned that SAIL earlier had an office in Dimapur, however the office had to be shut down due to rampant loss owing to taxation by UG’s. He noted that the consumer meet programme was the first official meet organised by SAIL after a period of around 25 years.
In this, when asked if SAIL would follow the same footsteps of abandoning the state given the fact that taxation was still continuing, Rengma noted that the state government had been able to maintain law and order whereby adding that the situation had considerably improved as compared to that of the earlier days. He also noted that the government of India have also been convinced on the improvement of law and order in the state.
When asked on the differences of price, commercial marketing chief, NE, SAIL, Pankaj Kumar, stated that SAIL was very competitive on its prices.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Johnny G Rengma, and invocation by campus manager & construction incharge, St Joseph University, Fr Arockia Sezhian Francis.
Short speeches were also delivered by prominent businessman, TK Angami, finance incharge, Nagaland Baptist Church Council, Rev Dr. Noksa Chui, social entrepreneur, Ren James, and few others, while address on SAIL was delivered by Pankaj Kumar.
