On the occasion of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and to commemorate 258th Army Medical Corps (AMC)Raising Day under the aegis of Directorate General of Medical Service (Army), an Army Medical Corps Motorcycle Expedition flagging off programme was held at PHQ junction in Kohima on Wednesday.
After being flagged off from New Delhi on April 3, the expedition reached the State Capital in the morning via Imphal-Silchar-Shillong route. The team later moved to Dimapur, from where it left for Tezpur and head to Arunachal Pradesh before returning to New Delhi.
Earlier, in his speech after flagging off the motorcycle expedition, home commissioner Abhijit Sinha acknowledged the services of AMC and said, being the largest medical organisation in the world, it was in every nook and corner of the country not only serving the army personnel, but the civilians.
He appreciated the wonderful work of AMC in the past two years during Covid-19 pandemic. Noting that things were looking good now, he however urged everyone to be cautions and on guard. Sinha said his heart went out to all doctors and members of entire medical fraternity who died in the line of duty and saluted them for helping the country overcome the pandemic due to their selfless services. He extended good wishes to the participants of the motorcycle expedition
Speaking on the occasion, motorcycle expedition’s team leader Col Rajesh W Adhau said the main aim of the expedition was to show appreciation to the doctors and other frontline workers who had been fighting valiantly against Covid-19 pandemic since its outbreak and also acknowledge the challenges faced by them during these difficult times.
He said the expedition would conclude on April 22.
Short speeches were also given by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority joint CEO Johnny Ruangmei and mission director of National Health Mission Dr Thorusie Kattiry.
The motorcycle expedition encompassed four army commands and 12 States, including seven North-eastern States. During the expedition, the team will visit more than 75 army and civil medical establishments to motivate the doctors and paramedics
The expedition will cover over 10,000 km (5,500 km in the jungles and mountains) over a span of 20 days.
The expedition team consists of three special officers, two medical officers, three non-technical officers and two other ranks along with two reserve members from AMC. The bikes are from Jawa Motors, Special Classic Army Fleet edition.
Rally reaches Dimapur: Meanwhile, members of the motorcycle expedition was given a warm welcome here on Wednesday. They were received by GOC Spear Corps Lt Gen RC Tiwari and all ranks at Rangapahar Military Station here. After a short programme, the rally was flagged off again by the COC on their onward journey to Tezpur, Assam.
To express solidarity with the riders, local riders from Tetseo College also joined the team.
