Office of the chief veterinary officer Kohima, sponsored by the department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) organised a free anti-rabies vaccination camp at Chedema village here on Friday.
During the camp, veterinary surgeon, Dr. Elizabeth Yhome enlightened the pet owners on the dreadful disease which infected dogs in the form of rabies.
She said rabies was preventable and fatality of a pet could be avoided by getting them vaccinated.
After the initial vaccination at two months for a dog, the yearly vaccination would keep the dog safe from rabies and help ensure the safety of the people around pet dogs.
Meanwhile, the village council thanked the doctors from Veterinary Hospital Kohima and interns from Veterinary Field Assistant Training Institute, Medziphema for carrying out the camp.
Altogether, 65 dogs were vaccinated at the camp and vaccination cards were issued to the owners.
It may be mentioned that the recent camp was in continuation of a series of free anti-rabies vaccination camps held across Kohima.
More such camps are expected to be conducted in the coming days in order to reach out to all who have lesser access to the facilities.
