4 SJS students as ISRO Young Scientists

Four Class 9 students from St. John School, Diphupar ‘B’, Chümoukedima were among the nine students from Nagaland selected for ISRO’s prestigious Young Scientist Programme (YUVIKA). The two-week residential training, held from May 19–30, 2025, at NE-SAC Shillong, offered participants a deep dive into space science, technology, and research applications.
Out of 98,000 registrants, only 350 students from across India made the final selection based on strict criteria. Representing St. John School, the selected students were Kinai Karangnamei, Rakovilu Denuh, Hatho, and Kevin Angami. Notably, Hatho secured 3rd place in the ISRO Quiz competition. The program included hands-on activities such as drone robotics, 3D and VR practicals, model rocket making, and telescope integration. Students also witnessed a live launch of the Rohini-200 sounding rocket, attended self-defense sessions, and engaged in an interactive discussion with Indian astronaut Angad Prathap.
Educational visits to Science Centre & Planetarium in Guwahati, Eastern Air Command, and Don Bosco Museum in Shillong enriched their experience.
St. John School has a strong track record in YUVIKA, with one student selected in 2019 and five in 2024. This year’s achievement further underscores the institution’s commitment to scientific learning and excellence.
