Two-day workshop-cum-seminar on social media for the students as yearly event was organized by Builders Hostel on October 7 and 8, with Way2Kingdom media ministry, Dimapur with director Dilip Kujur as resource person.
Dilip emphasised on addiction of social media and its effects. He said that a new type of addiction to social media has emerged, wherein people spend too much time on social networking so that it interfered with other aspects of daily life. Dilip mentioned that there’s no official medical recognition of social networking addiction as a disease or disorder, but it has the potential to cause long-term damage to emotion, behavior and relationships. Stressing that many parents and people find it difficult to accept that their children were facing a new type of addiction, he added that “social media addiction” was not like substance addiction.
He also pointed out the three types of addictions which included substances, impulse control disorder and behavioural and said that some individuals may find the idea of social media addiction amusing but it was a reality.
It may be mentioned that Way2Kingdom media ministry is also looking forward to have more workshops in schools, collage, universities and churches by the coming year 2018, with the vision to educate youths and students about the effects on health and misuse of social networking sides.
