Nationalist Democratic Republic Party (NDPP) on Wednesday held felicitation programme for Moatoshi Longkumer and Azheto Zhimomi, who had recently joined the NDPP along with 19 other NPF legislators. The programme was held at Chümoukedima Town Council Hall (CTCH), at Chümoukedima.
Welcoming the NPF MLAs—Moatoshi Longkumer and Azheto Zhimomi to NDPP, advisor for Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio said Zhimomi was coming back to his “original party” and that he was “one among the founding members of the party.”
Stating that although “Plan A failed” (NDPP merging with NPF), Zhaleo claimed that “Plan B” (NPF merging with NDPP) was successful.
He said that 21 MLAs merging into NDPP was “not surrendering”, but was done in order to strengthen the party.
Delivering a speech, Moatoshi Longkumer acknowledged all rank and files of NDPP for inducting him to NDPP and added that joining NDPP with his supporters and colleagues would strengthen the party.
He expressed hoped that the merger of 21 NPF MLAs into NDPP would strengthen the leadership of chief minister, Neiphiu Rio. Moatoshi claimed that Rio had been sincerely working and felicitating for an honourable and acceptable solution to the Naga political talks.
Further, he urged upon the pioneers of the party to remove any apprehension with regard to joining of 21 NPF MLAs into the party and assured that they had joined the party to work together for the “greater glory of the party” and not to create problems.
He also assured that he would look forward to working with party with sincerity, truthfulness and commitment.
Also addressing the gathering, Azheto Zhimomi, MLA, in his speech clarified that the 21 NPF MLAs joined NDPP not because they were “power hungry”, but to strengthen the goal of chief minister, who was keen on bringing an honourable solution to the ongoing Naga Peace Process. He claimed that Nagas should come together at this juncture to bring peace and tranquillity in the state.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by working president youth wing Dimapur region, Lawrence Ovung and invocation offered by working president women wing Dimapur region, Lireni.
Welcome address was delivered by NDPP Dimapur region president, Vihoshe Awomi, while senior vice president (central) & convenor re-organising committee Charlie Sekhose also delivered a short speech.
A special number was presented by general secretary, Youth org, Imli Walling, while secretary NDPP Dimapur region, Sanuel Lemtur delivered vote of thanks and W/president, Dimapur II A/C, Koching Zeliang offered benediction.
