Mokokchung College of Teacher Education observes 9th Cultural Day

Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) held its 9th Cultural Day on June 28 at the college campus on the theme “Reclaiming Cultural Heritage”.
In a press release, MCTE informed that guest speaker, AKM president, Nungdokyanger Ao, who spoke on the significance of the day said cultural heritage was a representation of one’s identity and how he/she held on the past.
Speaking on the good “our” ancestors have passed on, he recalled how the elders maintained societal connections through community events, established “Putu Menden”—a system devoid of corruption.
He said in order to know cultural heritage, people must know their history and the philosophy of life, and continue to speak their mother language.
Nungdokyanger encouraged the student-teachers to be honest and practice professional ethics, following the honest legacy of their elders.
The formal session was hosted by Tosangla Chang.
The informal session saw a variety of performances from student-teachers and a fusion folk song performance by Cultural Troupe, Tongpu Pur, Ungma Village.
The programme ended with student-teachers from various clubs participating in indigenous games.
