
Nagaland Chief Electoral (CEO) Abhijit Sinha on Wednesday launched the “ERONET” software which was introduced by the Election Commission of India for electoral–roll management on Unified National Photo Electoral Roll. ERONET integrates the e-roll at the national level.
After the launch, Sinha informed this Correspondent that ERONET was envisioned keeping in mind the mandate of the election commission that no voter was left behind irrespective of his language or physical ability. He said ERONET system strives to make an applicant’s entry in the electoral roll unambiguous and error free without much of hassle, more transparent, seamless processing of forms, easy handling of the databases, regular and simpler way of monitoring and maintaining the health of the electoral roll.
CEO said the electoral roll data was managed and maintained on state server by using electoral roll management system (ERMS) of respective states and the ERO-Net system provided a unified ERMS service at national level using UNPER. He informed that the system has three major components ERO-Net that links all EROs of nation, UNPER- unified national photo electoral roll database and NVSP citizen electoral services.
Sinha informed that inclusion, modification, deletion or transposition in the electoral rolls was done by filling and submitting electoral roll forms. The forms can be submitted online through the National Voters’ Services Portal (NVSP) http://nvsp.in, which shall be processed in the ERONET. Link to the NVSP portal has been provided in the website of the election commission http://eci.nic.in and the website of the chief electoral officer http://ceonagaland.nic.in.
He shared how online submission was more convenient as it could be tracked with phone number and no chance of missing the document. He also informed that one can submit offline forms in physical to the ERO/AERO/BLO of his or her assembly constituency /polling station shall be digitized, uploaded and processed in the ERONET. He said ERONET application has already been launched in some states. CEO informed that all concerned officials have been trained at the state and district level for implementation of ERONET in the state.
