
With the aim to foster unity and better relationship, Asukiqa Area Joint Council (AAJC) consisting of five villages, namely Asukiqa, Ghokimi, Tsaphimi, Puneboga and Kitami organized a programme in commemoration of the AAJC establishment with the theme “progressive unity” at Asukiqa village under Zunheboto district with retired principal director Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Sukhato A. Sema as the chief guest on August 26, some 76 km away from the state capital.
Dr. Sema in his address called upon the area people to work wholeheartedly to reap reward and enjoy the fruit of the hard labour, reminding that the hard earned fruit was always sweet. He encouraged the parents of the area to train and give education to their children to be fit in this modern world. He said in this hi-tech and competitive world the children should be guided in the right way.
Citing the developmental activities lacking behind in the area, he expressed the need of the right leader to serve and work for the development of the area and range in future. He challenged the intellectuals, church workers, students and public to seriously ponder and work for the benefit of the area and the state. He expressed his desire to serve the area people and the state to be the voice of the voiceless.
Additional deputy commissioner Pughoboto, Avelu Ruho in her address as the guest of honour urged the gathering to continue the good relationship with neighbouring and the surrounding villages. She encouraged the gathering not to forget the good culture of “our” forefathers like honesty, being straight forward, sincere, integrity etc. She urged the area people to look beyond the tribalism line and stay together cordially. Ruho also reminded the gathering the need of tolerance and acceptance with neighbours.
Public and GB union leaders from neighbouring villages of Rengma and Lotha also addressed the gathering.
While appreciating the villagers dwelling outside for attending the programme, she reminded the importance of knowing their roots wherever they live. She said the council monolith being unveiled on the occasion should be the foundation of unity and vision and legacy for the future generation. She also shared the concern and the need to avoid bad habit of suspicious nature and jealousy, so common in Naga society.
Earlier, the monolith of the AAJC establishment commemoration which was established in the year 2015 was unveiled by the chief guest.
The programme was led by Vihoshe Assumi GB convenor AAJC, recorded by Vikato Swu VDB secretary Asukiqa, innovation prayer by Vikiho Achumi pastor TBC, welcome address delivered by Ghunakha GB treasurer AAJC. Asheto Achumi secretary AAJC shared the history of AAJC, traditional dances were performed by various villages and the area GB members received prayer from the church leaders. Vote of thanks was proposed by Khuwoto Assumi chairman AAJC while benediction prayer was said by Tuyi Kappo pastor KBC. Hundreds of members attended the programme including members coming from Kohima, Dimapur and others places.
