DLSU, TSUK, SCC organise freshers’ meet

Dimapur Lotha Students’ Union (DLSU) held its 2nd fresher’s meet-cum-3rd academic excellency award at Lotha Hoho Ki here on Saturday. 
Hundreds of students studying in various colleges in Dimapur clad in their traditional attires attended the programme held in two sessions. 
On the occasion, a special dedicatory prayer for the students including the freshers was conducted by the pastor Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur (LBCD) Rev. Zanao Mozhui. 
The first session was graced by retired additional director Land Resource and mission director Bio Resource Mission, Moatoshi Longkumer as chief patron and social entrepreneur Ringo Odyuo as guest of honour. 
In his speech, Moatoshi reminded the students to have the burning desire to learn saying that academic excellence required good skills, discipline and hard work. 
He urged the students to play their own part before seeking support of the parents, teachers and the community. 
Reminding the students that there was no substitute to hard work, he called upon the learning community to seek academic excellence and not to be contended with what they are. He further encouraged the students to take decision what they want to become in life before joining the college. 
Guest of honour, Ringo said that Naga youths are second to none and that given the opportunity the youths have the talent to excel in every field. 
However, he lamented on the current scenario faced by the people in the state. He therefore urged the students, who were considered as the leader of tomorrow, to take the lead and bring the changes. 
“We all are leaders, so be prepared from now to face the challenges”, he added. 
The second session witnessed the crowning of Mr. and Miss. Freshers to Mhademo Kikon from Unity College and Jonchibeni Ngullie from St. John respectively.
The judges were- helicopter base, manager and base operational director, Mhonjan Lotha; Miss Nagaland 2003 Sentienla P. Ezung and Miss Dimapur 2012  Nzanbeni Kithan Ovung.  
TSUK: The Thenyizumi Students’ Union Kohima Kohima (TSUK) held its 22nd general session-cum-fresher’s day with under-secretary of Home, Veswusayi Kezo as the guest speaker at LCS building Kohima on August 26.   Kezo in his address said success and excellence were the same sides of a coin but came with a lot of spins and turns laced with huge effort. He reminded that education can be bought but knowledge can only be gained. He asked the students to take pride in their achievements and also reminded that they should enjoy the fruit of their success and be counted as asset by the society. 
He reminded the students’ community that nobody can change the past but can shape the future. He urged the gathering to value and preserve the culture and dialect and also know their roots. He reminded them not to forget their root and how they have been brought up accordingly.  
In his concluding note, he said that the history and origin of the village was yet to be documented or researched properly. In this light, he called upon the new generation to undertake thorough research on the history and culture before all source of reliable account was lost. 
Thepukrayi Nienu VDB secretary, Thenyizumi in his short address said the students should not aim only at getting good marks but also to find a way to earn their livelihood. He urged the students to learn good habits and values for the upliftment of the society. 
During the program, successful students of HSLC & HSSLC examination 2017 were also felicitated. New TSUK executive for the tenure 2017-18 was announced during the program with Veduto Theyo as the president and Nukedu Dawhuo as vice-president. (Correspondent)
SCC: Salt Christian college (SCC), Dimapur observed its 26th freshers meet on August 26 at Meren Chapel Hall, with TemjemImna Along Longkumer, chairman & MD REM Group, Nagaland as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Longkumer said if one does not built something for the future generation, then one does not have the right to be a student.
He challenged the students to build their future strong and daring without scepticism, hypocrisy and ism. He asserted that the future has to be built from now and urged the gathering to say yes to things that were right. He said students were the structure and epitome of the society and that it must be strongly structured.
Pointing out the bad roads, unemployment problems in the state and talking about the change in Naga society, he questioned the students “are we willing to face this general election with truth and built the future together.” To be a future leader, he said one should be humble, hard working and to take the lead.  
Principal of the college, Dr Ramsurat Maurya exhorted the students, while Rev. Thebemo, campus minister blessed the freshers and gathering. Other highlights of the programme included speech on behalf of freshers, songs, dance and other entertainment items.
Mr & Miss Freshers 2017 went to Sevo of BA 1st semester and Werozi of BA 1st semester.
