Three individuals of 21-Tuli Assembly/Constituency, who had earlier filed a writ petition in the Gauhati high Court, Kohima bench against the Merangkong Village Council (MVC) have written to Nagaland chief secretary to issue an administrative order to ensure free and fair election in the Tuli A/C.
The petitioners– Wapongtemjen, Temjenzulu and Lanuwapang, all natives of Merangkong Village in the letter to the chief secretary stated that after the court disposed off the case, they were summoned by the MVC to the putu kilang (apex customary and traditional court).
The three petitioners said they declined the summon but one of them (petitioners of the court case), Lepzungchiba complied with the summon and was imposed a “fine of a pig” for filing the writ petition in the High Court against the resolution adopted by the village council.
Further, the petitioners alleged that he village council had defied the court directives dated 30.05.23017 and the 07.06.2017 directive issued by the chief secretary and made a public announcement on August 20, 2017 at around 8 p.m. in Merangkong village that “those persons who filed the case in the High Court against the Mernagkong Medemsanger Putu Menden are not allowed to enter the jurisdiction of Merangkong village. No other candidate(s) are allowed to campaign/canvas in Merangkong village jurisdiction except the candidate patronage by the Mernagkong Medemsanger Putu Menden. Anybody acting against the directive shall be at their own risk and cost.”
In this regard, the three petitioners have sought immediate intervention of the chief secretary to ensure free and fair elections in the constituency.
