Custodial death: Eastern Nagaland Legislature Union (ENLU) seeks justice

Expressing shock and dismay over the death of Henveih Phom of Anaki C village in Assam police custody, the Eastern Nagaland Legislature Union (ENLU) has appealed to the governments of Nagaland and Assam and the responsible authorities to take up the matter and see that “justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done”.
ENLU chairman S Pangnyu Phom and secretary CL John vehemently condemned the “brutal torture” that led to the loss of life under custody of the law enforcing agency. ENLU said the act of Assam police was “inhumane, unacceptable” and totally against the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution as well as the accepted norms of the International Human Rights Law.
The union has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
