A seminar and awareness on “Phom Tribe Festival” was organised by Hongmeila SHG Society on Saturday, at IRCA hall Longleng.
In a press release, the society informed that the programme was organised with an objective to “reignite the knowledge of our traditional culture of the Phom Monyiu festival and how to preserve Phom culture in this transitioning modern life”.
Special guest of the programme, Phom People’s Council (PPC) former president, H. Leisha Phom elaborated on how Phoms must value and embrace their culture and learn to co-ordinate with the current modern lifestyle. He reminded the people not to forget their “old ways”, values and their roots.
Leisha also highlighted the gathering on the significance of Phom Culture and Monyiu Festival.
Resource person, Orangkong La Union Longleng, president, Phange Phom also spoke on the utmost need to “re-learn and re-nurture the values of tribal culture and how Phoms must not forsake but learn to preserve our culture”.
The programme was chaired by Hongmeila SHG Society general secretary, Shamla, prayer by Longleng Town Baptist Church deaconess, Pongyau, welcome note by Hongmeila SHG Society president, Phongla Phom and special Songs by “Chenchong Liho Group” and Shahshing and friends. Other highlights include cultural songs and cultural show.
