PWD (R&B) has condemned the action meted out to two officers of Peren PWD (R&B) division allegedly by the mob of Gaili village, Peren district on July 19 last. In a press release, PWD (R&B) chief engineer, Er. K Rhetso, requested the authority to take appropriate action on the culprits.
According to chief engineer, two officers – Er. Akheto Sema, EE, PWD (R&B) Peren division and Er. Vimeto Pusa, SDO, PWD (R&B) Jalukie division were allegedly manhandled at Npangreu river when they were on duty to inspect the damage of sub-ways of bridges under construction in between Punglwa and Jalukie.
PWD (R&B) chief engineer said it was “very unfortunate” that the public resort to such violent actions while performing official duties. The department said unprecedented rains during the year have damaged many roads and bridges in the state causing much inconvenience to the public. However, it said that such damages caused during natural calamities cannot be controlled and restored or set right within a few days.
Asserting that the departmental site officers were working under constrained circumstance and were trying their level best so the road users were not inconvenienced, the department has therefore appealed to the public to show restraint and understand the situation before resorting to such inhuman actions.
