Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) on Friday said that “repeated infighting” for power within the Naga People’s Front (NPF) was putting the welfare of the Naga people and development of the state at stake. In a press release, KDCC president, Kevi Vizo, said the NPF government has been mandated by the people to uplift the state in all spheres for third time in 2013.
However, he said the current NPF government had nothing worth its achievements as it has been busily engaged in leadership crisis besides forcing their wrong decisions upon the general public.
KDCC stated that to the astonishment of the people, TR Zeliang, who had to vacate the chair of chief minister in the aftermath of the public uprising, has again managed to get back the chair “through whatever means.”
It stated that public uprising against Zeliang government’s decision to hold elections to Urban Local Bodies led to the killing of three Nagas and injuries caused to several.
Kohima District Congress Committee reminded Zeliang that the tears of the family members of those killed and the Naga people was yet to dry and memories were afresh of the entire episode.
It stated that Zeliang taking over as the chief minister would be akin to rubbing salt into the injuries of Naga people. “It is an accepted fact that NPF is running the affairs of the state through peoples’ mandate but are the NPF legislators so incapable that they have to bring back someone because of whom Naga people had to shed so much tear?” Kohima District Congress Committee asked. The Kohima congress asserted that if the NPF legislators found themselves incompetent to lead the Naga people, they should resign en masse and pave way for early elections so a fresh peoples’ government would run the affairs of the state.
KDCC on bye-election
With regard to party’s decision not to set up candidate for the ensuing bye-election to the 10-Northern Angami-I Assembly Constituency, the KDCC stated that the Congress as one of the oldest political party in the country, was firm to uphold the provisions of the Representation of Peoples’ Act.
It stated that as per the Act the bye-election cannot be held if the tenure of the present House was less than a year.
Kohima District Congress Committee said it was however focused on bringing the much required change of government in the 2018 state general elections.
Kohima District Congress Committee has appealed to the general public to continue to render their support in installing a Congress government, which would “take the state towards development and progress.”
