PHED Phek division organises ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme

Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Phek division conducted a programme to commemorate the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign on the theme “visual cleanliness”.
According to a DIPR report, gram sabha meeting on Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF+) elements and Swachhata Hi Seva was conducted in all four blocks—Phek, Chozuba, Meluri and Pfütsero under Phek district.
The participants included swachhagrahis and Water & Sanitation (WATSANs) from every village also known as foot soldiers of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Following the campaign, a variety of activities were carried out in every village under Phek district led by Swachhagrahis and WATSANs.
Some of the activities included cleaning garbage sites, public places like Anganwadi centre, Panchayat Hall, village approach road and water bodies, plantation of trees at water sources, wall painting, poster campaign, create awareness on the ill effects of Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) and organising gram sabha at village level.
Resolutions were also passed for the ban on SUPs.
The programme was organised with an aim to generate greater community participation and reinforce the concept of “sanitation as everyone’s business”.
