Common Facility Centre (CFC) for Banana Fibre Extraction at Chumoukedima supported by NECTAR – North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach with The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA) as the implementing agency was inaugurated on June 11 at Chumoukedima.
The inaugural was graced by secretary, ministry of DoNER, Chanchal Kumar, as chief guest and chairman of MARCOFED, Dr. M. Chuba Ao as guest of honour.
Officials from NECTAR, led by director general Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma, attended the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking at the program, Chanchal Kumar, expressed his excitement at the CFC launch, saying it would inspire many more such projects in the region. He highlighted that under PM DevINE, several initiatives are underway for regional development. He said that the CFC will strengthen both the state and the region’s resilience.
Dr. Sarma highlighted the government of India’s plans under the Ministry of DoNER to support farmers by turning waste into wealth. He informed that CFC, implemented by tEA will offer livelihood solutions through banana waste to numerous farmers and rural communities in the vicinity of the plant and the state and shared that it is the first of its kind in the North East region.
tEA, CEO, Neichute Doulo, thanked NECTAR for setting up the CFC and praised Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma’s leadership for driving key initiatives in the region. He also thanked chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for his NagaKi City vision, mentioning that CFC wa the first factory under this framework. He believed the area would grow into an economic hub and shared that tEA had begun coordinating with nearby villages for raw material sourcing and production linkages.
Dignitaries who also spoke at the meeting included Dr. M. Chuba Ao; professor, Nagaland University, Dr Akali Sema, and former minister, Doshehe Y Sema.
During the program, NECTAR also provided the farmers with training materials and the Vasundhara Soil Organic Testing Kits. Around 200 farmers from around the state attended the event.
