While appreciating the understanding arrived at, between Municipal Affairs department and Dimapur Municipal Council Employees’ Welfare Union (DMCEWU), that led to suspension of DMCEWU’s proposed indefinite strike till November 8, 2022; Nagaland Medical Dealers’ Association (NMDA) appealed to all parties to resolve the issue at the earliest as the strike impacted the entire city and so that public could continue with their normal life.
In a press note, NMDA joint secretary and in-charge of media cell Arijit Sharma said the development provided a sigh of relief to the people of Dimapur as the intended strike would have had severe impact on the city.
NMDA also expressed concern over the rising prevalence of dengue and other airborne diseases which are widespread. NMDA expressed caution that piling up of garbage, in case the strike took place, would only add to the problem and increase cases of dengue and airborne diseases. It said that besides having a sizeable population, Dimapur was also the State’s commercial hub.
NMDA said that the looming fear of strike also raised questions among public as to why, despite households and business establishments paying their sanitation fees, renewal fees of trade licenses, etc, they have to suffer? NMDA also asked how the funds available with the department from different source, including the sufficient funds received from Government of India from time to time, were being utilised? It said the situation was truly unfair to the general populace. NMDA also expressed its appreciation to governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi for directing closure of all toll gates and made it clear that the association was strictly against the reopening of any toll gate in the future.
