Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has cautioned that it would not allow any group/individual to trespass into their traditional boundaries without its permission.
This was stated by SAYO president Metekhrielie Mejura and general secretary Metevizo Sophie while drawing attention to the proposed Manipur Sangai Festival, scheduled to be held from November 15-24, organized by Mao Council. According to SAYO, during the festival, various events like tracking to Mt. Tempü and Dzükou valley have been planned. SAYO clarified that it has never objected to such festivals at “Okhro Ikhro” but maintained status quo, as the area “politically falls under Nagaland State political boundary.”
SAYO asserted that Kezoltsa, Tempü and Dzukou traditionally belonged to the Angami tribe and “basing on the vague inter-state political boundaries/demarcation any organisation or community should not take undue advantages or undermine the traditional stakeholders.” SAYO therefore warned that any one trespassing the traditional boundaries without the permission of SAYO would be doing at his/her own volition, and strict action would be initiated against the defaulters.
