9 inmates escape from Mon district Jail

In a huge embarrassment to Mon Jail authorities, nine inmates escaped from the prison after scaling the walls in the wee hours of Saturday.
When contacted, Mon police confirmed about the incident and disclosed that the inmates included seven under-trials and two convicts, who were put behind bars for various crimes like theft, arms case etc. while the two convicts were serving sentences for murder.
According to Police, the nine inmates escaped around 1 a.m. on Saturday by scaling the walls of the prison. Police said that a case has been registered at Mon police station and investigation was on to apprehend the inmates.
While police have also issued a look out notice, all agencies were also alerted and search operation was on to arrest the inmates.
An official also informed that a departmental inquiry has been launched to investigate in to the security lapses.
