Farmers trained on ‘management of winter vegetable Crops’

Around 100 farmers of Beisumpuikam village, Jalukie were imparted training on “Holistic Management of Insect Pest of winter vegetable Crops” by the experts at the one-day farmers’ training programme. According to Scientist (Assistant Agronomist), AICRP (Vegetable Crops), SASRD, Medziphema campus, Dr. Moakala Changkiri the aimed of the training programme was to make the farmers aware of the importance, benefits and advantage of vegetables and to make them identify the various insect pests of winter vegetable crops and their management.
At the technical session, Dr. Waluniba, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Entomology, SASRD: NU gave a pictorial presentation on the major insect pests of winter vegetable crops.
He showed to the farmers all the major pests that attack the vegetable fields in winter and also demonstrated on how they could manage them in an integrated manner without affecting the quality of the crop.
Earlier, the programme started with an invocation by chairman of Beisumpuikam village followed by brief introduction by Dr. Moakala Changkiri. This was followed by an interactive session alongwith feedback from the farmer participants.
At the end of the training, the farmers were given kitchen kits consisting of hand shovel and organic biofertilizer.
The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Moakala Changkiri, Yongkogtula, Thungpenthung and Vepo.
