Foundation stone laid for Naga Patient House

PWD (Housing & Mechanical) minister Tongpang Ozükum virtually laid foundation stones for two housing projects from PWD chief engineer’s office here on Monday. The projects included Naga Patient House at Vellore under Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu and District Office Complex at Wazako Lu, Mokokchung.
In a brief address, Ozuküm said sensing the need of Nagas going to Vellore for medical check-ups, the initiative to start Naga Patient Home was started some years ago. Listening to the cries of people and realising the importance to have such an infrastructure, he mentioned that chief minister Neiphiu Rio wrote a letter to his Tamil Nadu counterpart MK Stalin.
Thereafter, when Rio went to meet Stalin in Chennai, the latter promptly responded to the request and allotted a plot of land at Vellore.
The proposed building would have amenities like 25 guest rooms with attached kitchen and bath, two dormitories, basement parking, multipurpose hall with 150-person capacity, canteen and dining hall with 30-person capacity, one office and quarter for caretaker, lobby/reception area, differently-abled friendly features and security guard room (s). Detailed project report (DPR) for the project was under progress.
Meanwhile, Tongpang said that construction of District Office Complex at Mokokchung was much needed since many departments at the district headquarters did not have office buildings and were housed in private buildings on rent.
The project was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 23.44 crores and contracted awarded to M/s Saramati Construction.
The building is designed as a G+2 with a plinth area of 4,890 square metre and will consist of 143 rooms – 15 in basement, 50 in ground floor, 53 in first floor and 25 in second floor.
The building will also provide differently-abled friendly features such as ramps that will be made accessible to all floors and a front canopy for car parking.
On completion of the project, the building will provide office space to district fishery officer, superintendent of excise, DIC office, chief veterinary officer, district education officer, superintending engineer (electrical), executive engineer (transmission), Urban Development Department, district social welfare officer and CDPO (Ongpangkong North) among others.
With timely funding, the project was scheduled to be completed by March 2025, the PWD department.
