Aghünaqa area GBs Association (AKK) and Aghünaqa Area Students’ Union (AASU) have threatened to shut down all schools in Aghünaqa area if their demand for revocation of transfer of 22 teachers from the area to other districts was not met immediately.
Addressing a press conference at Ghoshito village on Wednesday, AASU president Ikato Khulu alleged that Aghünaqa area had been functioning without adequate number of teachers and that the recent transfer of 22 teachers to other districts that required them to join within 15 days, failing which their salary would be deducted, would only hamper quality education in the area.
Ikato also declared that local bodies would not be issuing no-objection certificates (NOCs) to the transferred teachers. He disclosed that there were 38 villages in the area with 35 schools, which included one high school, two middle schools and the remaining were primary schools. He claimed that the number of school teachers in the area did not even exceed 120. Ikato further alleged that every school in Aghünaqa area had been neglected, with the infrastructure in some schools being in total shambles.
Ikato insisted that if the State government did not implement rules and regulations properly, then it should not blame school management committees (SMC), even for poor infrastructure. For, he pointed out that it was the duty of the government to check whether the rules were being implemented properly, rather than playing the blame game, which was wrong,
He demanded that if anyone was found misusing funds or acting in violation of the rules, then action should be initiated. He also questioned why students of the area had been neglected as some schools had only two or three teachers covering almost all subjects, which was unfair.
He asserted that it was not about the number of students present, but about acquiring knowledge as every individual had the right to education under the Constitution of India. As the basic development of an individual started from school, he urged the citizens, organisations and student bodies to join hands and fight against department loopholes.
He demanded that the State government should shift students to other areas to provide them better education if it failed to ensure their quality education as their future could not be neglected.
The AASU president further demanded that the transferred teachers be brought back to Aghünaqa area before the commencement of the 2023 academic session.
On his part, AKK president and P Vihoto Village GB Heshito V Awomi lamented that Education Department had been playing with the lives of students of Aghünaqa area as within a period of one year, teachers of the area were transferred to other districts more than thrice.
He mentioned that there was only one high school in the area whose total strength of teachers should be 25, but there was only 10 teachers at present.
Though no teacher should be transferred or posted outside as per SMC guidelines, he alleged that none of the guidelines had been followed.
He stated that the ratio of teachers to the number of students was less in the area. He thus demanded immediate cancellation of the transfer order of teachers urgently.
