Dr. Jamir reminds HM about promise on Naga solution

Staff Reporter

Former chief minister and governor Dr. S.C. Jamir was among those who met with union home minister Amit Shah when the latter arrived Dimapur from Imphal on a brief stop over at Niathu Resort.
Dr. Jamir and Shah had discussions for over half an hour. When asked what was discussed, Dr. Jamir told Nagaland Post that he told the union home minister that Nagas throughout Nagaland were crying for early solution to the political issue and that the government of India cannot afford to ignore it.
He also told Shah that since the Naga stakeholders have signed their respective agreements after 25 years of negotiations, it was high time that the government of India provided the much-expected solution.
Dr. Jamir also reminded Shah that since Naga political sovereignty and integration were not under negotiation and that as the government of India has rejected outright the demand to include Naga flag and constitution as part of solution, solution was the only outcome.
Further, Dr. Jamir said since NSCN(I-M) has agreed to the competencies and since the group accepted that demand for flag and constitution for incorporation into the constitution had been rejected, the way was clear for securing early solution. He said people are not only expecting but also demanding it. Dr. Jamir said If there is delay due to flag and constitution, then the government of India should ask NSCN(I-M) if it is sincere about bringing peaceful solution and give a time frame to end the stalemate.
Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and some of the ministers also met Shah for the virtual inauguration of various projects in Nagaland.
