The newly constructed Gorkha community hall at Medziphema town was inaugurated by advisor of Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio as the special guest on January 11.
The hall was dedicated by Suraj Dutraj, pastor, NBC Medziphema Town.
A press release by NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/C, press secretary, Thejangukho Yalietsu stated that Zhaleo in his speech lauded the efforts of the community and leaders for their hard work to achieve their dream of the people.
He said Gorkha community had waited for years to get their own hall and acknowledged the contractor Gohu Angami, for constructing a quality building to them. Zhaleo said other communities or groups may be given the opportunity to use it but should utilise the community hall with a sense of belonging.
He revealed that the hall was constructed under the aegis of Minority Affairs with minimal funds.
The advisor also reminded the gathering to do away with the presentation culture as unnecessary expenditure incurred while buying gifts for guests and dignitaries.
The inaugural function was chaired by GYASU Medziphema president, Sanjay K. Dutraj and Nobin Pradhan, president, Nagaland Gorkha Association was the guest of honour.
