19,727 duplicate names detected in e-roll: SEC

State Election Commission has reportedly detected 19,727 duplicate names/multiple entries in the Electoral Roll (e-roll) with Mon district topping the list with 7437. (See table)
Addressing a press conference at his office chamber here on Thursday, officiating chief electoral officer (CEO), N. Moa Aier, said those detected would forward to the respective electoral registration officers (EROs) for necessary action, either to be deleted or rectified. Disclosing that 50% could be deleted, the officiating CEO said the activity would, however, continue as the election office has been putting all effort to cleanse the e-roll.

Highlighting the Election Commission of India (ECI) initiated Special Drive that would be launched from July 1-31, Moa Aier said the programme was in tune with the theme “No voters to be left behind” with focus on first time electors in the age group of 18-21 years.
He said the activities of the Special Drive would include submission and receiving of forms from applicants giving priority to left out eligible voters of 18-21 age groups. Aier said there would be door to door visit by BLOs. Officiating CEO said that special campaign would be organized on July 8 and 22 at every polling station where BLO would be present with adequate number of forms.
On publicity and related issues, the officiating CEO said a comprehensive publicity campaign to motivate electors, particularly the eligible young electors between 18-21 years would be carried out.
CEO and DEOs would also arrange meetings with recognized political parties at state and district level and would seek their cooperation for registration of electors.
Deputy CEO, Rokuovituo Khezhie, said EVM machines would be accompanied by Voters Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) to ensure smooth conduct of election with immediate effect. He said more webcams and CCTV cameras would be installed in almost all polling stations.
Deputy CEO (SVEEP), Vekho Vero, and other officials were also present at the press conference.
Till date, the final e-roll stood at 11,38,215 out of 190000 lakh total population in the state.
