ATMAs, KVK conduct training and demonstrations

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Dimapur in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) – ICAR, Jharnapani conducted within district farmers’ training for soyabean farmers on June 23, at Muga Farm School in Niuland town. 
Resource person ACTO, KVK-ICAR, Jharnapani James Kikon, spoke on the topic “Cultivation Practices of Soyabean (Glycine max)”. He elaborated on soil testing, planting methods, sowing, seed rate, spacing, treatment, nutrient, water, weed, fertilizers and pests’ and diseases management, intercropping with other crops like maize. 
He also illustrated on the application methods of agricultural lime (Calcium carbonate) in fields and said that the primary reason to apply agricultural lime was to correct the high levels of acidity in the soil.
The programme was chaired by BTM Niuland block, Demalu Hasnusa, welcome address was delivered by DPD-ATMA Dimapur Tonikali Achumi, who highlighted on the statistics and data of soyabean productions in Nagaland. 
Short speech was delivered by Kahoto Zhimomi, a progressive farmer who shared his experiences with the participants regarding eri and muga rearing, som and kessuru plantations and his coordination with ATMA. 
ATMA, DPD Janet Chishi, motivated farmers to acquire knowledge through various trainings and other programmes conducted by ATMA, KVK and allied departments and practice the as well as disseminate such knowledge to other farmers from village to block level. Later, Soyabean seeds (JS 93-05 and JS 95-60 varieties) and lime bags were distributed to the 35 farmers and SHG members present. 
ATMA KOBULONG BLOCK: ATMA, Kobulong block Mokokchung conducted a demonstration on small scale backyard poultry management at Sungratsu on June 26 with Dr.Aoyimsen Jamir BTT convenor of the block as the resource person.
He trained the farmers on various areas of management such as construction and maintenance of chicken coops and how sanitation is an important element to bird health. The resource person also demonstrated the techniques of administering medicines to the birds.
Free medicines such as amixin, cocciguard, vitamins and mineral mixtures were provided by AH&Veterinary services and distributed to the farmers. The demonstration was attended by  10 poultry farmers.
KVK PEREN: Training programme on mustard-oilseed production technology was conducted at Mhainamtsi village on June 21 and Jalukiekam village on June 23 by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren. 
During the training programme, the importance and impact of technological components like adoption of improved varieties, plant protection measures, thinning to remove excess plants, and timely weeding and harrowing to increase the yield of production were disseminated to the farmers. The negative effects of higher seed rate were also discussed. Altogether 50 farmers attended the programmes. Improved varieties of seeds were also distributed to the farmers.
