IPCER organises teachers training workshop

Institute Of Psychology Counseling and Educational Research (IPCER) Chumukedima organized a teacher’s training programme with the topic “teachers as a counselor” for all Chumukedima private institutes at Mount Mary College Chumukedima on June 2, with additional director SCERT Kohima, Dr. Thejakhrielie Sekhose as the guest of honour.
In his keynote address, Dr Thejakhrielie encouraged the teachers to be professionals and, as a professional, must be trained and should be updated. He said that in such complex and globalised era, the teacher were the first person to notice student issues, adding a teacher should be able to help students manage their mental health, well being, facilitate, psycho educate and equip students for a better future.  Dr Thejakhrielie maintained that “if you are not a good guide, you cannot be a good teacher”.
Today counseling is a necessity but there is massive deficit in this aspect and since every child is unique, teachers should be competent to deal with such by acquiring and training oneself, beginning with being empathetic, non-judgmental and unconditional positive regard, he stated.
He also thanked IPCER for sharing the same vision and working relentlessly. He hinted that SCERT has a similar training programme in the pipeline.  The facilitator for the training was associate professor SCERT, Dr. Zavise Rume and counseling psychologist of IPCER Bokatoli.  IPCER graduate student Alila Imchen and Mary gave a case presentation.  According to IPCER, the main motives of the workshop was to bring together all the academicians and experts from different schools to exchange knowledge ,ideas and findings to implement the importance of counseling skills teachers as a counselor.  Altogether 55 teachers and 10 schools from Chumukedima area took part in the workshop.
The Programme was chaired by Psychologist, Tainla, while welcome address was delivered by director/founder of IPCER, Nukshi Esther Imsong.
