JVC reacts to MVC’s statement

Jessami Village Council (JVC) on Friday said that the statement by Matikhru Village Council (MVC) alleging that Jessami villagers had fired upon Matikhru villagers was “misleading and baseless.”
In a rejoinder, JVC chairman Anizote .M said “not only in our area but in all Naga inhabited area, we have traditional boundaries”. However, JVC said the statement– “protection of territorial state boundary” was nothing but “exposing their immaturity to the knowledge and reality of Nagas.”
While not denying the existing land dispute issue, JVC however said there was no tense situation these days. Citing an instance, JVC claimed that intermarriages between the two villages do take place often.
JVC said when Matikhru villagers cross Jessami village while going to Phek, Kohima and Dimapur, the villagers never create any uneasy environment. Rather, Matikhru villagers visit the village to meet their relatives without feeling insecure.
JVC said since both the villages would continue to remain neighbours, any issue that may crop up may be corrected through dialogue. But going to the media “without knowing the seriousness and value” was bad, it added.
While thanking Matikhru village for helping them trace a “missing youth in the river”, JVC at the same time expressed surprise for accusing them of firing at Matikhru villagers.
