Several state BJP workers led by senior party leaders staged a protest/poster campaign Wednesday here at Supermarket, demanding the removal of Nagaland BJP president Visasolie Lhoungu from his post and against shifting of state BJP headquarter to Kohima that was reportedly proposed by Lhoungu.
Around hundred party workers staged a demonstration against the party president whom they blamed for party’s inability to function smoothly due to “lack of proper leadership, clear direction, etc”. Various allegations were levelled against the retired bureaucrat who was elected on January 11, 2016. Party workers also accused Lhoungu of “functioning like a dictator”, inaction on pressing party matters and keeping in pending for more than six months the memorandum to prime minister and national BJP president regarding sacking of BJP MLA Mhonlumo Kikon. Lhoungu’s loyalty to the party was also questioned over the reported “rumours” that he would be contesting from NPF ticket, saying ‘there is no smoke without fire’.
According to the press release signed by I.K Sema, advisor BJP and ex-dy CM, the dropping of three senior BJP office bearers-James Vizo, Mghato Achumi and Yanghose Sangtam, by Lhoungu citing direction of central leadership, was the doing of Lhoungu.
The party leaders at the meeting resolved to shut down all BJP offices in Nagaland till central BJP oust the incumbent party state president. They also opposed shifting of BJP Hq to Kohima.
BJP suspends 3 party workers
State BJP has suspended three party workers- advisor I.K. Sema, convenor of finance and development committee H.K. Khulu and former spokesperson Yanghose Sangtam, for their anti-party activities with immediate effect. This was stated in a statement issued by State BJP president Visasolie Lhoungu and state general secretary (administration) Eduzu Theluo. The party has also disowned the unauthorised meeting organized by few state BJP members and displayed of placards against the state president on May 31 at Dimapur, the statement stated. Reacting to the suspension, former ACS and finance commissioner H.K.Khulu expressed surprise since the protestors did not shout any slogans at all. Speaking to Nagaland Post, Khulu also said no show cause notice was issued to them by the state party. He claimed that the demand for resignation of the state BJP president was good for the party and also valid.
