One-day training for nurses on mental health awareness organized by the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) was held at District Hospital Dimapur on May 30.
The training was graced by the presence of State programme officer for National Mental Health Programme Dr. Khriezotuo Paphino, CMO, Dr.Vikato Kinimi, deputy CMO Dr. Antoly Swu and medical superintendent, District Hospital.

The officials highlighted about the issues of mental health in the society, as well as the significant role of health care providers, especially the nurses in tackling the problem of fast rising mental illness. The resource persons touched upon different aspects of mental illness and treatment.
Psychiatric and social worker Neinhanu Kulnu, spoke on the principles and role of counseling in psychiatric management, Kikruwheno Terhuja, clinical psychologies educated on how to assess and evaluate patient needs and mental state when they first come into contact with nurses, psychiatric nurse, Kezhano Kennao, spoke on substance abuse and their management, with relevance to the high prevalence of the problem in Naga society and nodal officer, Dr. Kezo presented the nature of different mental illness, basics on identification and treatment of the same.
The training was conducted under the leadership of Nodal Officer, DMHP, Dr. C. Kezo and attended by 80 nurses from CHC, PHC and sub-center of Newland, Dhansaripar, Medziphema blocks and by the nursing trainees from school of Nursing, District Hospital Dimapur.
