
The four-day North East National Service Scheme (NSS) youth festival under the theme “learning together” concluded on Monday at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima with secretary of Youth Resources & Sports, Anenla S. Lonchari gracing the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
Chief guest in her address stressed the importance of unity amongst the eight North East sister states and said this youth Festival embraced a mixture of participation from different states, which in turn provided a fine platform for each other to share and observe their values, cultures, traditional songs, and dances.
Longchari said that Mizoram and Sikkim were the cleanest state in North East and urged the other states’ volunteers to take example from them and maintain cleanliness as priority. She encouraged the participants to share back at home whatever they have learnt during the festival.
On various competition, Arunachal Pradesh bagged the first position in quiz competition, Nagaland bagged second and Sikkim third position. In the extempore speech, Mizoram bagged the first prize, Nagaland second and Meghalaya in 3rd place. In debate, Manipur bagged the first prize, Nagaland got second and Assam came in third.
The four-day long festival saw hundreds of NSS volunteers from across the northeastern states in various activities such cultural exchange program, seminars, yoga, tree plantation, sightseeing etc.
C. Theyo state NSS officer said the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has given the opportunity to the NSS youth organisation for such kind of festival at Manipur and Sikkim this year.
The youth festival was organised by the department of Youth Resources & Sports, NSS cell Nagaland Kohima in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
It may be mentioned that this is the third NSS festival supported by the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports govt of India to all the northeastern states.
