No other alliance except BJP-NDPP: Kohli
Correspondent
KOHIMA, FEB 22 (NPN): As the countdown to the election day draws closer, the BJP has once again reaffirmed its alliance with NDPP and refuted the claims made by some political parties that they were also part of the alliance.
Addressing an election rally at Wozhuro in Wokha district on Wednesday for 38 Wokha Assembly constituency BJP candidate Renponthung Ezung, BJP’s national spokesperson and Nagaland in-charge Nalin Kohli, said other parties had started a propaganda and spreading rumours that they were also involved in the alliance.
He alleged that parties like NCP and LJP never had any time for Nagaland but rushed to the State only during elections just to show that they care and asked such parties whether they had any organisational base in Nagaland. Kohli mentioned that leaders coming from Bihar, Mumbai or elsewhere were not serious about Nagaland and cared little. He termed such leaders as “political tourists”.
He, therefore, urged people not to be misled by propagandas of the opponents and waste their votes by voting for such parties. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi loved the Northeast, including Nagaland, and that under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio, PM-related schemes were implemented properly in the State.
He stated said the vision document of BJP was the party’s promise and agenda for governance, assuring that the party’s agenda was peace and development.
He also rubbished rival party’s claim to have the support of Rio and clarified that except for Ezung, there was no other candidate from either BJP or NDPP. He urged the people not to be fooled by false propaganda of other parties but vote for NDPP-BJP for peace and development.
In his address, deputy chief minister Y Patton said he was unable to attend the February 17 rally as there was no helipad for their chopper to land at Wozhuro and stressed that for a range comprising of six villages, there should be one. He assured that if the BJP candidate was voted to power, developing Wozhuro would be the top priority.
He acknowledged that the road leading to Wozhuro range from national highway was pathetic, but pointed out that a Central scheme was required to construct the road since its length of 10 km could not be handled by a single contractor. He however promised to build the road if Ezung was elected.
He disclosed that delimitation of constituencies would take place in 2026 and if Ezung was given a chance to represent the constituency, he said he would work for the interest of six villages and would not go against their wishes in any way.
“If you want development, stay with us and vote for BJP-NDPP since the alliance will secure more than 40 seats,” Patton exhorted, clarifying that NDPP-BJP would not take other small parties and invite trouble, as stated by Rio. He assured to work for Wozhuro if Ezung was elected.
Meanwhile, with reports of election-related violence taking place across the State, Patton said violence only led to violence, highlighting that election came only once in five years, but people had to stay together. He appealed to everyone to shun violence and participate in the election peacefully.
In his welcome address, Ezung thanked Kohli and Patton for attending the rally.
He also briefly shared his priority for Wozhuro range if voted to power and said he would take up development activities in consultation with the advisory board constituted from the six villages.
