Barely 12 hours before the polling, a crude bomb reportedly exploded at Aongza ward in Mokokchung town Sunday night.
Sources said that the blast took place at Aongza ward at around 9.30 p.m. near the residence of Independent candidate I. TalitsubaImchen, who is contesting from Koridang assembly constituency. When contacted, Aongza ward authority chairman, Longri confirmed about the blast. However, there was no report of any casualty till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, police also detained 25 persons from Alichen area (under Koridang A/C) Sunday evening along with arms. Sources said that two AK series rifle, one pistol and crude bombs were also seized from the possession of the arrested persons.
In another incident, shots were reportedly fired near Alichen 2nd gate on Sunday morning. A complaint with police was also lodged by the son of the Ind candidate, Limameren claiming that the IRB personnel stationed at Alichen area had physically assaulted some of the supporters soon after the firing incident. The complainant also alleged that ten of the supporters were taken to police custody.
Tension has been running high in Koridang A/C, particularly after the killing of late Imkongchiba Kichu on February 22. Reports of people moving, some with arms has only added to apprehension. Police have redoubled security measures to prevent any untoward incident in the areas in and around places where violent incidents had taken place.
