NABARD’s role on agriculture highlighted

The important role played by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and its mission to promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and to empower agriculture and rural sector through micro-financing was highlighted by general manager, NABARD regional office, Dimapur Tiakala Ao at the seminar on Friday.
The one-day seminar “Rural agricultural extension: A Catalyst for Alleviating Poverty through Sustainable Farming and Averting Food Crisis”, sponsored by NABARD and organised by Department of Commerce Livingstone Foundation International College, Dimapur (DOCLFICD) was held at LFIS auditorium.


Tiakala also stressed on the major issue of land holding in agriculture, as the local farmers hold small lands which makes it difficult for them to acquire modern ways and means of agriculture.
She further explained how the rural agricultural extension play an important role in disseminating information on farm technologies, support equal learning and assist farmers in developing their technical and managerial skills.


Resource person director, Konger Agritech Pvt Ltd, Nagaland Dr. Sosang Longkumer highlighted the gathering on commercial mushroom farming: A sustainable farming for socio-economic development and food security in Nagaland and Asst. Professor and head, dept. of Commerce Dr. Tabassum Khan highlighted on towards a net zero world through green farming.
Earlier, the programme chaired by convener, Asst. Professor Dipika Agarwal, began with an invocation by vice principal, Asst. professor and head dept. of Education Dr. Tainla Mar.
Welcome address was delivered by principal, LFIC Dr. R.K Behera, special number by Sumhguang Riamei and vote of thanks and benediction by Asst. Professor L. Achilo Kikon.
