Students of Eastern Bible College (EBC) Dimapur organised an exciting cultural programme of various Naga tribes including those from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam at the 49th cultural programme held under the theme “unity in diversity” at the college campus Friday afternoon.
The programme included impressive folk dance, war-cry competition, cultural show, one voice by Metsizolie & Liyingbeni, folk song by Tenyimia students, folk drama by Sumi and Lotha students, folk dance by Myanmar students and closing ceremony by Eastern Naga students.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest at the programme, editor-in-chief Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden, called on students to go deeper into aspects of culture as it is not only what is visible but the invisible intrinsic human values. He said our forefathers highly revered cultural traditions as they embodied truth, justice and hard work. He said these were factors that made Nagas spontaneously embrace Christianity in the early days.
He urged upon bible students to imbibe inner transformation as taught in the Bible(Romans 12:2) and syncretise them with traditional values and to that the war cry be deep within our conscience to stand steadfast against all wrongdoings and injustices in contemporary society.
Earlier the program was chaired by James Lotha and Livika S. Swu, invocation by lecturer Tsiatsshuvi Ngouri, welcome address by cultural secretary Gibeon Hongam, vote of thanks by assistant cultural secretary LikaZhimomi and benediction by principal, EBC, Rev. Dr. T.N. Lotha.
The EBC students prepared sumptuous indigenous delicacies of various tribes at the cultural feast at the college hall.
