Nagaland Governor, La Ganesan Thursday paid tribute to three revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, who were hanged by the British.
A press release by Raj Bhavan informed that the Governor along with officers and staff of Raj Bhavan observed “Martyr’s Day” or “Shaheen Diwas,” commemorating the martyrdom of the three young revolutionaries of India Independence movement.
In his short address, Governor Ganesan briefed the officers and staff on the significance of the day. He said on this day the country honours the three brave heroes who laid down their lives at young age for the cause of the nation, thereby becoming an inspiration for many young men and women to fight for freedom.
In his speech, commissioner and secretary to governor, Wezope Kenye said the day was observed in remembrance and tribute to the brave men who laid down their lives for the freedom of the country. He said their sacrifice was not was not in vain, as it ignited a spark of revolution and resistance among the people of India.
Kenye said the brave men fought against injustice, inequality, and oppression, and in doing so, he said they become the epitome of courage and sacrifice.
He added that people should remember and pay homage to all the brave men and women who fought for freedom. Stating that “Shaheen Diwas” was not just a day of remembrance, he said this day was also of reaffirmation of people’s commitment to values and ideals that the freedom fighters stood for.
He also urged the gathering to take inspiration from their sacrifice and continue towards a better India, where every citizen was treated with dignity and respect, and justice and equality prevail.
