The Western Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK) has strongly opposed the recent decision of the State government to allow sale of liquor to foreign delegates attending the G20 Business Summit scheduled from April 4 to 6 at Kohima.
In a press release issued through its executive secretary Rev Dr Phughoto Sema, WSBAK termed it as another blunder decision taken by the government regarding the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.
Rejecting the government’s claim that the relaxation was being done as per “Special Permits to Foreign Sovereign” in the 16th para of NLTP Act, WSBAK claimed that the Act stated otherwise, pointing out that it did not mention “sale” of liquor to foreign nationals as claimed.
It reminded the government that the NLTP Act prohibited “possession, sale consumption and manufacture of liquor in and of import and export thereof in the State of Nagaland,” and that every other law under the Act came under that preamble of Act.
Hence, terming the sale of liquor to foreign nationals as a clear infringement of the Act, WSBAK strongly urged the State government to revoke its decision and respect it.
