VC Tripura graces IGNOU convocation in Kohima

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Kohima, Nagaland held its 36th Convocation at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima on April 3.
Speaking as guest of honour, Vice Chancellor, Tripura University, Agartala, Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain congratulated the students on receiving degrees/ diplomas and certificates in different disciplines.
Prof. Prasain said that through IGNOU, thousands have been benefited since its inception and said the students who were about to receive the degrees at the 36th convocation were lucky to get opportunity to study and receive degrees from IGNOU. He mentioned about how some students passed from IGNOU and have become IAS officers. In this regard, he challenged the students to give their best and strive towards excellence and success. Prof. Prasain also informed that degrees/ diplomas or certificates received from IGNOU was equivalent to the degrees/ diplomas or certificates received from any conventional or traditional institutions/universities and were recognised everywhere in the country and abroad. Prof. Prasain also highlighted about National Education Policy (NEP) and its avenues/ courses for the students to get higher education through online in various disciplines where an individual can undertake two degrees simultaneously and more opportunities to venture out.
He also informed the gathering that there were IGNOU Study Centres in 15 countries so as to enable people to get more education irrespective of age, race, etc. Prof. Prasain also said that due to shortage of universities in Northeast states unlike the other states in India, especially in Nagaland, IGNOU becomes ideal institution for any individual to pursue continuous studies to its higher level. Prof. Prasain challenged the degree recipient not to be a job seeker but a job giver at any given opportunity.
Regional Director, IGNOU Kohima, Dr. Timir Tripathi while welcoming 1,002 learners, who will be receiving their degrees and diploma certificates to the 36th convocation of IGNOU said that the main convocation function will be held at IGNOU HQ in New Delhi with the president of India, Droupadi Murmu as chief guest and minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan as the guest of honour. He informed that the convocation will be held simultaneously held at 32 Regional Centres through teleconferencing mode, including Kohima Regional Centre.
Dr. Tripathi said that out of 1,002 eligible students under Kohima Regional Centre, 633 were Master’s degree, 129 Bachelor’s degree, 125 Diplomas and 115 Certificates.
Degree certificates were given away by Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain and vote of thanks was pronounced by Assistant Regional Director, Dr. Mayonmi Shimray.
