District Tobacco Control Cell Team (DTCC) Kohima, alongwith Enforcement Team of North Police Station and South Police Station on May 9, conducted surprise checking within Kohima town.
A press release by Chief Medical Officer, Kohima, Dr Tumchobeni, stated that altogether 34 shops were fined and challaned under Section 6 (b) – violation on sale of tobacco products near educational institutions under COTPA 2003.
Meanwhile, a DIPR report informed that in pursuance to State Government notification declaring all Educational Institutions, Government and Private Health establishments as Tobacco Free, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Nagaland conducted joint enforcement drive in 11 NTCP districts on May 9.
District Anti-Tobacco Squad penalized shops under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA 2003) – two shops under Section 6(a), 114 shops under 6(b) and two shops under Section 7. Fine amounting to Rs. 14,730 have been collected and samples from seized products have been kept to be sent for testing at Guwahati, a report by DIPR stated.
