Enforcement Squad under National Tobacco Control Programme Mon carried out enforcement drive near educational institutions at Mon Town on May 24. A DIPR report stated that at the drive huge amount of tobacco products were seized and destroyed at the dumping area. The raid was mainly to strengthen COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) 2003 in the district and to ensure that no shops sell tobacco products near educational institutions. As per Section 6(b) of COTPA 2003 selling any kind of tobacco products within 100 yards of School area was strictly prohibited. During the drive 20 defaulters was penalized under COTPA Sec(b).
