Felicitation programme on completion of Phase – I Hospitality & Tourism training for the youth of Eastern Nagaland was held on May 31 at College of Arts & Technology, Nerhe Phezha, Kohima district.
The training on hospitality and tourism sector was conducted by Tourism Department Nagaland and Vernajyoti Educare and sponsored by Department of Under Developed Areas (DUDA) under UDAP 2022-23.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso (Ato), MLA, extended best wishes to all the trainees as they were going for further training in Goa. He urged them to be the “best ambassador for Nagas” and advised them to have positive approach in their dealings and uplift the Nagas and bring a good name to the society. He also encouraged the trainees to work with innovative ideas to excel.
Founder & director Vernajyoti Educare, Sandip Kumar Da informed that 19 trainees had completed phase – I training for a period of one month and they would further go for another 6 months training in hospitality sector in Goa this month (June).
He said that all the 19 trainees will receive their placement after the completion of the 6 months course.
In a keynote address, director, Tourism Department, Nagaland, Keduosie-ii Metha said that by introducing skill development training/capacity building programme, the departments main focus was to create change in the outlook of the local community in the approach to hospitality sector and create sustainable livelihood by creating opportunity of market demands and to provide employment opportunities to the youths/stakeholders, empowering them with necessary skills required.
“Through this initiative, the department is dedicated to emphasize more on the youths especially the unemployed youths, school and college drop outs, youths from rural areas and underprivileged backgrounds to train & skill them and make them employable in organised and unorganised sectors,” she said.
It has been the endeavour of Nagaland Tourism to put in place a system of training and professional education capable of generating manpower sufficient to meet the needs of the tourism and hospitality industry, both quantitatively and qualitatively, she said adding that the main objective is to train youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds focusing on young men and women from rural areas and provide them with employable skills, coupled with access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Joint secretary, Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Reny Wilfred, assistant director, tourism department, Veyielo Doulo and PS to Advisor, Geology & Mining and DUDA, Yonglong Konyak, also spoke at the programme.
Yangto Wangsa and Lisila shared their experiences and expectation.
The programme was chaired by director DUDA, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, while vote of thanks was proposed by joint director, tourism Nagaland, Tiarenla Rutsa.
