Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was launched in Niuland district on June 1 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Niuland office.
A press release by DC Niuland office stated that in a keynote address, DC Niuland Sara S. Jamir said the overall goal of BBBP scheme was to celebrate the girl child, ensure her protection, education and participation in the society.
She encouraged the members to plant five trees for the birth of every girl child throughout the district.
Resource speaker, district welfare officer, Sentimenla, stressed on the need to create awareness and provide support and guidance to the girl child. She also sensitized the members on the services of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Women Helpline and Mahila Shakti Kendra.
The function was chaired by SDO (C) Niuland and attended by the Niuland Town GBs, GB and VCC of villages under Niuland Sadar, local and area Sumi Totimi Hoho and line departments. The programme was followed by plantation in the name of girl child by DC Niuland.
