State BJP warns against cyber frauds

BJP Nagaland unit on Friday said it has observed that lately cyber frauds in the form of posting wrongful non-authentic morphed photos and videos, with out-of-context propaganda text, had been circulating on social media particularly on Whatsapp and Facebook to mislead the public and create social, religious and political disharmony.
In a press release, BJP Nagaland general secretary (media) & spokesperson, Jaangsillung Gonmei, said that several inaccurate photos and its out-of-context messages were also about burned churches etc, associating them with BJP.
Gonmei said the BJP Nagaland with concern undertook due verification and found that those social media photos were old, outdated and not in the context of the country and neither of BJP nor of recent times. He claimed that in reality those photos were old, morphed and of foreign origin.
In one instance, he said the photos were of churches in Bangladesh and Norway that had happened several years back for other accidental reasons. “Such photos are being morphed or photoshopped and attached with inflammatory text messages and posted/emailed as election related propagandas. One such set of photos and email were found to be an anti BJP propaganda email chain letter originating in 2010 and earlier,” party spokesperson said.
In his regard, the BJP Nagaland unit has asserted that such falsification, factually incorrect or misleading information, defamation, identity theft, social political and religious propagandas, banking frauds, fake accounts, etc., fell under the category of cyber crime and liable for legal prosecutions with IPC, PIL or FIR.
Therefore, the BJP Nagaland  unit has cautioned the general public not to be duped by such lies and not to share or repost them without properly cross checking to avoid legal and police actions. “It is the responsibility of every citizen to seek only truth and ensure that only truth prevails,” it stated.
