More than 520 National Cadet Corps (NCC) Cadets from schools and colleges affiliated to 25 Naga Battalion NCC attended a combined annual training camp which commenced on June 8 at Assam Rifles (AR) Campus, Wokha.
A press release by Commanding Officer (CO) 25 Naga Bn NCC informed that the Cadets from the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Shamator, Noklak, Wokha, Phek, Peren, Chumukedima, and Kiphire are participating in the mega camp.
The cadets on arrival were screened for Covid-19 before being allowed into the camp. A team of paramedics from the District Hospital, Wokha carried out a health checkup of the cadets.
The day started with a “Mass Yoga Demonstration” by yoga teachers from Vivekanand Kendra Vidyalaya lead by Capt. Irshad Hussain of 40 Assam Rifles. More than 500 cadets, associate NCC officers, permanent instructors and Assam Rifles jawans took part in the Yoga practice. The event was organized as a curtain raiser to the “International Day of Yoga 2023”.
Delivering the opening address of the camp, Camp Commandant and Commanding Officer, 25 Naga Bn NCC, Col. CST Swamy highlighted the basic tenets of discipline and the importance of various training activities planned for the cadets.
Col. Swamy informed that, apart from the regular NCC training, personality development of the cadets would be the main focus area. He said manners and etiquettes, public speaking, awareness about blood donation, prevention of HIV and AIDS, career counselling etc. would be part of the initiative.
Col. Swamy informed that the NCC was coordinating with industry leaders in providing training at subsidized costs and placement of NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders in airline, hospitality and security industries. He called upon the cadets to avail the golden opportunity to get into a successful, well-paid career.
The camp commandant also informed the gathering that Career Guidance for National Defence Academy, Combined Defence Services Exam and NCC Special entry scheme would also be provided in the camp.
At the health awareness capsule, Dr Nzanthung Nguillie, pathologist from District Hospital, Wokha delivered an audio-visual presentation on benefits of voluntary blood donation. He urged the young cadets to come forward and save at least four lives every time they donate blood.
