Trainings, demo for farmers

With an aim to equip farmers with knowledge, insights, technology, and products so as to increase their productivity, departments and agencies organised various programmes across the state.
Old Ralan Village: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Ralan block, Wokha conducted training and demonstration programme on June 17 at Old Ralan Village. Block Technology Manager (BTM) Chophabeni delivered training on the topic, “uses of liquid fermented liquid manure” and discussed its benefits in detail. The farmers were also encouraged to build a low-cost structure where they could make their own fermented liquid manure. Demonstration on “management and practices in maize cultivation” was conducted by Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) Z Nchumthung Shitirie, wherein he taught the importance of maintaining proper spacing, weeding, intercropping. Management of pests and disease were also discussed in length. Altogether 18 farmers and ATMA officials attended the programme.
Chendang Village: Department of Agriculture, Tuensang conducted a training on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) on June 16 at Chendang Village. The resource persons of the training were DAO, T. Supongmar Longchar; SDAO, Wongto Chingmak; AO, Cholen and AFAs, Bangbe, Changsunny, Mosa Somba, Maten Chipen, and I. Mebosingla. The farmers were briefed on the importance of rodent pest management, holistic management of insect pest in summer vegetable crops, effective control measures to prevent outbreak of fall armyworm in maize and also identification of natural predators that rely on insect pest as a food source.
Khongsa Block: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kiphire, Khongsa Block conducted training and demonstration on June 14-15 with ATM, Takutoshi Jamir and Merennungba Imchen as the resource persons. At the training, resource persons highlighted on how to increase the productivity of millets and conducted training on the possibilities of value-added products of millets. A total of 18 farmers attended the training.
Chenmoho Village: Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Chen block, Mon district conducted a demonstration and training on June 9 at Chenmoho Village. Block official, BTM, Nusakho Nyekha gave a demonstration on seed treatment with bio-fertilizers and elaborated on its benefits and importance in organic farming. A training on the usage and application of microbial consortia was conducted by ATM, Taiching Yana, emphasizing the necessity of soil management practices and highlighted about the benefits of microbes in the soil. The officials also conducted a demonstration on the management of fall army worm (FAW) in maize.
